A retirement home in Leicester hosted a local artist to teach residents how to work with ceramics during a dedicated workshop.

Residents at Graysford Hall Care Home were led by Rachel Barnett – who is a glass and ceramics graduate and teaches classes as an arts practitioner for Leicestershire County Council schools and adult learners.

Residents and staff at Graysford Hall were thrilled to have the opportunity to learn from a talented and experienced teacher.

Jayne Hill, Wellness Manager at Graysford Hall, said: “We promote creative expression and embrace and encourage new skills.

“Creative expression has many benefits, as it improves mood and cognitive function, boosts self-esteem, and alleviates stress and anxiety.

“The workshop was a chance for residents to get creative in a sociable and welcoming space and was great for them to meet and get to know a talented artist within their community.”

The workshop was a hit with the residents, who showed creativity and imagination in their work.

The Graysford Hall team said they are looking forward to the next session, where residents can paint their rooms.

The next project with Rachel will include making commemorative medals and other items for the Queen’s Jubilee in June.
