Proposal made to name the LC Ceramic Room after an Air Force veteran

A proposal was made this week that members of the Laredo College board of trustees honor Air Force veteran and former Laredo College arts professor Dale M. Short by naming a hall after him.

Ernesto Sanchez made the proposal. Sanchez is a 93-year-old Korean War veteran. He is also a former LC sculpture and drawing teacher and president of the Korean War Veterans Association in Laredo.

“I think the veteran who served us all deserves something from us,” Sanchez said. “He was a fine teacher; I’m sorry he left.

Short was a visual arts teacher. He taught for 53 semesters at Laredo College, according to Sanchez.

Short spent a few years at New Mexico Junior College before finding his way to Laredo Community College. He remained until his retirement 24 years later.

Short died on December 28, 2021 in Laredo.

In response to Sanchez’s request, LC Board Chair Lupita Zepeda proposed that the Fort McIntosh Campus Ceramics Room be named “Air Force Veteran Dale M. Short.” .

“Thank you for your service, we will review it and refer it to the president,” Zepeda said.
