Crafting animal skins and weapons in ‘Far Cry 5’: what’s different this time around?
Far Cry 5 released earlier this week, and continues to wow fans with its open-world mayhem and creepy cult plotlines. If you’re new to the franchise, you probably have no expectations for the crafting system, but longtime fans are wondering what to do with their animal skins. The good news is that the answer is very simple. The bad news is that this might not make fans of a deep and detailed crafting system very happy.
Far Cry 5 Animal Skins: How to get them and how to use them
There is no advanced crafting system for using animal pelts in Far cry 5. Not at all. So if you’ve been hoarding skins throughout the early game (like I did) because you’re worried that you need something to make a bigger case or a bigger wallet like you would in previous games, relax. You can sell most of these things and use the money for ammo, medkits, or new weapons.
If you’re worried about needing a pelt but not having it for a quest, the only combo you’ll need is a black bear pelt and two deer pelts to complete the orders story mission. of the doctor located in the region of Faith. It’s not an early quest, but if you’re the type of player who gets upset when you sell something you’ll need later, these are the only skins you’ll ever need.
Otherwise, hunt. Animal pelts can be a great source of quick cash early in the game. The fastest way to farm pelts is to craft some of the Ultimate Hunter Pharmacy (you can check our guide for more instructions) which highlights the animals of the region and makes you invulnerable to predators. There are also many hunting magazines in Hope County, and these will highlight the best areas for spotting a particular animal. Naturally, the harder an animal is to kill, the more its pelt is worth, so predators like bears and cougars get bigger paychecks. Invest in the Harvest Master perk to get 2x skins per kill.
If you want to make it an outing, find a spot where you can shoot deer or caribou, butcher them, and then use the bait they spawn to attract predators. Kill the predators, skin them, find more deer/caribou and start over.
Crafting Weapons in Far Cry 5: There Are None!
You read correctly. There is NO weapon crafting in Far Cry 5 . Not even for accessories. If you’re looking to add a scope or silencer to your favorite rifle, you can purchase it from the store under the “Customize” option. But you won’t be scouring the world for rare items to create a special RPG or LMG upgrade. All you need in cash.
The only craftable weapons are consumables, such as grenades, molotovs, etc. If you want to learn more about how to use them, check out our crafting guide for more details. In general, you’ll pick up plenty of crafting materials as you loot your way from rampage to rampage. The components are not available in stores, so the only way to get them is to find them. If you’re heading into a mission where you’ll need a particular item (remote explosives are really useful for those “take out a moving vehicle” missions), stock up. You can check the quantities by selecting the consumable explosive on the weapon wheel. They are displayed automatically next to the crafting option.
Are you disappointed that there isn’t more craftsmanship in Far Cry 5? Or are you relieved to be able to focus on the action and maybe the fishing? Let us know in the comments!
